Batches of raw chicken that are sold at major supermarkets have been recalled over risk of salmonella

Raw chicken sold in a number of supermarkets is being recalled for evidence of salmonella.

The products were recalled by Western Brand and were available from Aldi, Lidl and Dunnes. and Tesco.

Other products were sold under BWG’s Glenmor brand which was available in other outlets.

Chicken products have been sold fresh and have now passed their best before date, but consumers may still have them in their freezers.

Products include breast fillets, thighs, whole chickens, wings and thighs.

Consumers are advised not to consume the affected batches.

People with Salmonella typically develop symptoms 12 to 36 hours after infection.

The most common symptom is diarrhoea, but other symptoms include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.

A recall notice has been posted on the Food Safety Authority’s website and notices will also be posted in retail outlets.
