SNOW WARNING: Motorists advised to drive with extreme caution overnight and tomorrow morning as black ice and light snow is widespread

People are advised to be extremely careful overnight and tomorrow morning especially as temperatures plummet and hard ice and so-called “wet snow” is expected to fall.

Met Eireann say snow is possible as temperatures plummet.

Met Eireann have advised that black ice will still be on the roads this morning with the AA advising people drive slower than usual after temperatures dropped to -3c overnight with snow expected to come in from the West.

From 10pm onward tonight, a hard frost is falling, especially on the west coast with temperatures dipping below freezing in many places.

The inclement weather is expected to bring snow from the West, especially on high lying land in Connacht and Ulster areas.

This week will be considerably colder than last week with daytime temperatures only rising to around 6c with nighttime temperatures going before zero.
