In a bizarre statement of childish obviousness, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that TDs ‘must sit in their own seats’ while inside the Dail chamber.
The statement comes in the wake of the so-called ‘Phantom Votes’ scandal, whereby TDs saw fit to vote on behalf of absent colleagues, up to six times in some cases. Such breach of public trust, not to mention the abhorrent disdain for the democratic process, has sparked public fury.
Voting multiple times on a regular ballot during election time would be considered a crime for peasants, but such behavior seems to be perfectly acceptable within the confines of the Dail.
