Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is reportedly putting his negotiation skills to good use by helping with peace talks in the Ukraine.
After criticising the EU response to the crisis, Ahern is said to have signed up with Crisis Management Initiative, a group that works towards conflict resolution.
Fighting in the Ukraine has intensified recently as government troops have attempted to oust pro-Russian separatists from lands held by them.
This has led to the postponement of a trip to the region by international police officers. They had been intending to search the site of the downed Malaysia Airlines plane for evidence and missing bodies.
