As mating season continues this venomous spider with a nasty bite is making itself at home in quiet and dark places. Unlike the more common and harmless household spider the false widow will be found outside.
Due to Ireland being too cold for the lethal black widow to survive, the false widow has been setting up camp in Ireland since the mid 1990s.
According to spider expert Myles Nolan the false window is one of the three species you would find nesting behind a car wing mirror or under the bonnet. The false widow hides away during the day and comes out overnight.
Nolan explains that the false widows bite is not fatal, it does have a strong venom which some people have had intense reactions to.
A Dublin man recently spent 24 hours in intensive care after being bite three times within ten minutes by a false widow. He had to be injected twice with with adrenalin after going into cardiac arrest.
