Biden remains under pressure following five additional classified documents found at his Delaware home

US President Joe Biden’s counsel said five more pages of confidential signs were discovered Thursday at the president’s home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Richard Sauber said they were immediately turned over to Justice Department officials.

Mr. Sauber said he went to Mr. Biden’s home in Wilmington on Thursday to facilitate the delivery to the Justice Department of a secretly marked document found there earlier.

“The DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them,” Mr Sauber said in a statement, reports RTE.

Mr Biden’s legal team this week admitted that it found classified documents from his days as a vice president in the Obama administration in his Delaware home, including some in his garage.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday appointed a special counsel to investigate the matter.

“How many more classified documents will they find at Joe Biden’s house?” the Republican House Judiciary Committee said in a tweet, reports RTE.

Sauber said Biden’s lawyers acted “immediately and voluntarily” to hand over any documents found to the proper authorities.

Mr. Biden is spending the weekend at his Wilmington home with his wife Jill Biden, who underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove skin lesions from her face and chest.

“It’s not like they’re sitting out in the street,” Mr Biden said. “People know I take classified documents and classified material seriously,” reports RTE.

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday launched an investigation into the Justice Department’s handling of improperly kept secret documents held by Mr Biden and questioned whether his son Hunter had access to them.

Republicans have tried to compare the investigation into Mr Biden’s handling of classified documents with the ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents following his presidency.

But the White House says the two cases are different because Mr Biden’s team cooperated with authorities in their investigation and turned over those documents.

Mr. Trump had held out until an FBI search of his Florida home.

Bob Bauer, Mr. Biden’s personal attorney, said in a statement that Mr. Biden has instructed his personal attorneys to be “forthcoming and fully cooperative with the National Archives and Records Administration and the Justice Department regarding the documents. In addition, the president’s personal attorneys have attempted to balance the importance of public transparency where appropriate with the established norms and limitations necessary to protect the investigation’s integrity. These considerations require avoiding the public release of detail relevant to the investigation while it is ongoing,” reports RTE.
