Billy Joel cancels all his scheduled concerts immediately after announcing rare brain cancer

American singer Billy Joel has cancelled all his upcoming concerts following a medical diagnosis involving fluid accumulation in the brain, reports Breaking News.

The 76-year-old, best known for hits like Piano Man and Uptown Girl, had been scheduled to perform at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on June 6, 2026, and at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool on June 20, 2026.

A statement on Joel’s social media read: “Billy Joel has announced that he will be cancelling all scheduled concerts following a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance. Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period,” reports Breaking News.

“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritising his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage,” reports Breaking News.

Joel added: “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” reports Breaking News.

In March, the singer, originally from New York, postponed his two 2025 UK shows due to what was then described only as a medical issue.

According to the NHS, NPH is a rare and not well-understood disorder that usually affects people over 60. Its symptoms, including mobility issues and memory problems, can mimic those of more common illnesses like Alzheimer’s, reports Breaking News.

Joel launched his music career in the 1960s and has achieved five UK top 10 singles and eight UK top 10 albums.

He has won five Grammy Awards and received 23 nominations, and in 1999, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Ray Charles, reports Breaking News.
