Bishops advice elderly, unhealthy and frail to politely not attend mass – Confirmations may be cancelled

The Irish Bishops’ Conference has advised that elderly people people with underlying health conditions have been kindly asked not to attend mass, funerals or the celebration of confirmation.

The Bishops said that anyone who does continue to go to Mass is asked to keep a number of metres away from other people, where possible.

The Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, said that at this time, its main concern “has to be for the elderly, the ill and those with underlying medical conditions”, according to RTE.

It’s understood that hand sanitiser will be at every church, while priests and ministers of the Eurcharist will have to sanitise their hands before and after distributing Holy Communion.

Alternative collection trays will be implemented without people passing them on from each other.

Confirmations are still to go ahead but may be cancelled at very short notice.
