The Civil Guard reported Wednesday that the remains of two young boys who vanished during floods in the eastern Valencia area of Spain two weeks ago have been located, reports Breaking News.

According to a Civil Guard official, Ruben and Izan Matias Calatayud, ages three and five, were discovered in different places close to Catarroja, some ten kilometres downstream from their house in Torrent, a Valencia city neighbourhood, where they vanished when the floodwaters struck on October 29.

Last week, their aunt Barbara Sastre told Spain’s public TVE that the flood occurred around 6.30 p.m. when the boys’ father was at home with them and their mother was working in Valencia.

“When the water burst through the wall, their father moved them to the living room to calm them down because the sound of the water running through the streets had scared them,” she claimed, reports Breaking News.

“The three of them were dragged out,” she told TVE, reports Breaking News.

According to state news agency EFE, their father, whose identity has not been verified, attempted to hold onto them but was carried away by the water’s surge.

After suffering severe injuries, he managed to live by clinging to a tree, TVE claimed, and stayed there for four hours before being rescued.

Sastre told TVE that the family was “destroyed” as a result of waiting for news, reports Breaking News.
