GardaĆ in Co Limerick have confirmed that the body of a woman has been recovered from the River Shannon.
It is believed the body of the woman thought to be aged in her 60s was discovered by a group of school children, in a stretch of water near a power station in Ardnacrusha, on Friday evening.
GardaĆ say they have yet to formally identify the body and a post-mortem examination will take place later this morning.
They added that the results of the post-mortem examination will determine their investigation.
