Investigation launched after teenager with down syndrome found wandering alone on busy Irish motorway

An investigation has been launched after a 19-year-old teenager with Down Syndrome was found wandering on a busy motorway in Dublin, after going missing during a trip to a local swimming pool.

The young man is said to have been part of a 13-strong group with intellectual disabilities, who were accompanied by five carers working for a Dublin service for mentally disabled people but unfortunately he went missing during the trip and ended up walking on the motorway.

The teenager was somehow left behind at the swimming pool, and was later found by chance by two passing Gardai.

The service has launched an investigation into the incident but it’s understood that the carers are not being blamed for the incident and that it was just an unfortunate occurrence.
