Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has officially halted production of its hitherto best-selling aircraft, the 737-MAX.
The model was involved in two eerily similar crashes that killed 346 people, which prompted the grounding of the entire fleet worldwide.
A software issue was found to be the root cause of the crashes. Despite ongoing efforts, Boeing has so far been unable to obtain clearance from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to allow the 737-MAX back on the air, which led to the halting of production.
The move spells further trouble for Boeing, as the company now has 400 completed aircraft that cannot be delivered to airlines around the world.
