In yet another indictment of the uselessness and utter waste that is Irish Water, thousands of households across Co. Mayo have been issued with a boil water notice.
It is understood that the reason for the notice is severe contamination with cryptosporidium, a parasite that causes respiratory and gastrointestinal illness in humans and may lead to hospitalization in individuals with other health issues.
The drinking water supply in Castlebar, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis and Knock is affected, as well as across rural parts of the county.
