Boris Johnson refuses to ease rhetoric on Brexit as Remainer MPs bemoan abuse they are receiving from pubic

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has refused to reconsider his remarks regarding the abuse faced by Remainer MPs who claim he has dismissed their concerns.

During PM questions on Wednesday the Prime Minister was urged to tone down his rhetoric regarding Brexit and MPs seeking to sabotage it.

It was suggested by some Remainer MPs, that Prime Minister Johnson’s references to Brexit in a war like manner may fuel violence and at very least further divide an already polarised UK.

The memory of MP Jo Cox was invoked to encourage the Prime Minister to ease off the rhetoric.

Cox was fatally shot and stabbed outside a library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, where she was about to hold a constituency surgery by Thomas Mair, a 52-year-old man, who had a history of psychiatric problems.

Mair was linked to neo-Nazi groups from the US and shouted “Britain first” as he carried out the attack. The assassination, coming just a week before the referendum on EU membership led to fears that political violence would erupt in the UK over the Brexit issue.

Boris Johnson has said the best way to honour Jo Cox’s memory was to deliver Brexit.

The UK PM told politico when confronted over his remarks in relation to Jo Cox

“I think the best thing for our country is to get Brexit done and bring us all together. “That is what we are going to do.”
