Boy (4) recovering following accident where he ran onto road to escape wasp

A four year old boy who was knocked down after running onto the road to escape a wasp is said to be recovering in hospital. The accident occurred last Friday at around 2pm at St John’s Well just off the Commons Road in Cork.

The boy had been playing with friends when he became scared of a wasp an ran onto a road in order to escape it. The boy was dragged several metres by the car which had to lifted off of him. Family have maintained a vigil by the child’s bedside at Cork University Hospital.

The female driver of the car was unhurt but was very distressed. She was treated at the scene for extreme shock.

Gardai commenced inquiries in the area seeking to speak to everyone at the accident scene. The appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
