A young boy is being treated in hospital this morning after he was struck by a car whilst he was standing outside a newsagents in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The freak accident which occurred at McDonnells Centra in Hardman Gardens, left a 12-year-old boy with serious injuries.

According to a number of eyewitness the boy was struck by the car as he stood with his grandfather outside the shop selling flags.
