A young boy is being treated in hospital this morning after he was struck by a car whilst he was standing outside a newsagents in Drogheda, Co Louth.
The freak accident which occurred at McDonnells Centra in Hardman Gardens, left a 12-year-old boy with serious injuries.
According to a number of eyewitness the boy was struck by the car as he stood with his grandfather outside the shop selling flags.
Although the boy’s grandfather wasn’t injured in the incident, it is understood that the young suffered a number of broken bones.
Gardai say they are currently investigating the incident which reportedly involved a female driver aged in her 60s.
It is believed that the woman lost control of her Ford Focus car before mounting the pavement and crashing into an electricity poll located directly outside the shop’s entrance.
Gardai say both the boy and his grandfather were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.
