Brazilian company fined for ordering female employee to perform ‘sensual dances’

According to various reports it is has been claimed that the Brazilian subsidiary of the Avon cosmetics company has been found guilty of improper conduct within the workplace and have been ordered to pay around €30,000 in damages to a former female employee who was apparently forced to perform sensual dances.

The fine was handed out by the Regional Labour Court in the north-eastern state of Ceara in Brazil, the court also said that the company must pay the former sales manager 100,000 reals approximately €31,640. It is understood that the unidentified woman was apparently forced to wear costumes and perform “objectionable dances of a sensual and pejorative nature” during the companies annual sales promotion events.

However the court did say that the ruling can be appealed. The cosmetics company Avon have refused to comment on the case.
