
A 16-yr-old girl has died following a hit-and-run collision in Navan, County Meath. The incident occurred on the Slane Road (N51) around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday evening, when a car struck the teenage pedestrian and failed to remain at the scene.
Emergency services attended the location, where they provided treatment to the girl before transferring her to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Gardaà arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the incident. Authorities seized the vehicle involved for technical and forensic examination. The suspect is currently detained at a Garda station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is to be arranged. Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the preserved scene, with traffic diversions remaining in place locally.
