Gardaí in Cork have confirmed that a 2-year-old girl has sadly passed away in hospital after being found seriously injured in an apartment in the city this morning.
It is understood the girl was found seriously injured at an apartment in Elderwood, on the Boreenmanna Road near Balintemple at approximately 5:15am.
Gardaí say the infant sadly passed away at approximately 9:20am in Cork University Hospital.
They added a forensic examination is currently taking place at the scene and two apartments in the building remain sealed off.
