Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has reportedly decided to retire from boxing, according to his uncle Adedamola Joshua. The revelation comes in the wake of a devastating car crash in Nigeria on December 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of two close friends and team members, personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami.
Speaking to Nigerian outlet The Punch at the family home in Sagamu, Adedamola stated: “The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing. That is one thing that makes us glad because each time he’s fighting in the ring, we are always carried away emotionally.” He confirmed Joshua had privately shared this decision with family.
Joshua, 36, had recently returned to the ring with a sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul in December, fueling hopes of a blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury in 2026. However, no official statement has been made by Joshua or his team, and some reports suggest he has not finalised retirement amid his grief and recovery.
