In breaking news this evening, it’s been announced that the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will address the nation in a broadcast at 9pm on RTE One television.
This is major news as the Taoiseach usually only addresses Ireland like this at times of emergency.
It’s understood that the broadcast is being made under Section 112 of the Broadcast Act, which allows the Government broadcasting time for announcements in the event of a major emergency.
