A man has died following a stabbing during a public order incident in Dublin city centre early this morning on South Anne Street.
Another man was seriously injured in the altercation, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute between two groups socialising. The injured man was rushed to St James’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, while the second man continues to receive medical treatment.
Gardaí have launched an investigation, sealing off the incident site for examination, along with parts of South Anne Street, St Stephen’s Green, and Dawson Street footpaths.
Sinn Féin’s justice spokesperson, Matt Carthy, called the incident “deeply disturbing,” highlighting a “serious problem” with public safety in Dublin, reports RTE.
He urged Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan to urgently develop a plan to ensure the safety of all residents, workers, businesses, and visitors in the capital.
