Islamic State has this morning claimed that the 17-year-old Afghan teenager who attacked passengers with an axe in a crowded train in Germany yesterday was one of its fighters.
A statement released by the organization said “The perpetrator of the stabbing attack in Germany was one of the fighters of the Islamic State and carried out the operation in answer to the calls to target the countries of the coalition fighting the Islamic State.”
Three people were left with severe injuries after the rampage, that ended when police shot the attacker dead.
It is understood that a hand-drawn ISIL flag was found inside the teenager’s bedroom.
The attack follows last week’s massacre in Nice, France, that left 84 people dead and dozens more severely injured.
