It has been sadly reported in the past few minutes that the former Chelsea and England footballer has died.
The news of the former footballer’s death was announced via a statement published on Chelsea FC’s website.
In the statement the club said the following: “We Chelsea Football club are “devastated to learn of the passing of our former player, captain and assistant coach”.
Wilkins who also was an assistant coach at the English club, was said to be critically ill in hospital after he suffered a major heart attack and a serious fall at his home in Cobham on Thursday.
It is believed Wilkins was placed into a medically induced coma by doctors at St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, South London.
