Fota Wildlife Park in Co Cork will close on Tuesday and Wednesday due to suspected cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu). A vet reported the suspicions after three geese died and one was found sick in a flock of 20 at the park.
Samples from the animals are being tested at the State Laboratory in Backweston, Co Kildare, with results expected within 24 hours. A veterinary investigation is underway at Fota, and a risk assessment will follow to determine if a 3km protection zone or a 10km exclusion zone is needed.
The park has suspended public access for the two days.
