Gardai are describing the discovery of a body in Carlingford, Co. Louth as an utterly tragic event.
Earlier this afternoon, they confirmed that a body has been found during the search for missing woman Ruth Maguire.
It’s understood the body of a female was found in a stretch of water between Carlingford and Greenore.
A post-mortem examination will take place later today.
Gardai now say that the believe the body is tragically that of missing Newcastle woman Ruth Maguire.
It’s understood that gardai are treating the incident as a tragic event.
Ruth Maguire from Newcastle, Co Down, was reported missing following a hen party in Carlingford, on Saturday night.
It’s understood that services have called off the search for Ruth Maguire.
Gardai have thanked the public for sharing the woman’s image on social media.
