
Gardai have confirmed that a 6-yr-old girl has died after she was hit by a truck in Galway city this afternoon.
The incident happened when the girl, who was on a bicycle, was hit by a truck and occurred at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn in Galway city at midday.
The girl sadly died at the scene. Her body was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place in the coming hours.
The driver of the truck was a man aged in his 30s. He was uninjured.
The road was initially closed for a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. It has nowreopened.
Gardaà are appealing for people travelling in the area between 11:45am and 12:15pm today, to make the footage available to gardaà via the confidential line on 1800-66-61-11.
