A massive search operation continued today for Michael Gaine, a 56-year-old farmer missing from his home near Kenmare, Co Kerry, since Thursday. Gardaí, alongside many volunteers and multiple agencies, are scouring the rugged terrain of the Carraig East area, with fears growing that Mr Gaine may have suffered an accident or medical emergency on his farm.

Michael Gaine, also known as Mike, was last seen in Kenmare town at approximately 11am on March 20, captured on CCTV purchasing phone credit at a local shop, according to a Garda statement cited by the Irish Mirror. The search, now in its sixth day, involves Gardaí, Kerry Mountain Rescue, the Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 115, Kerry Civil Defence, Iveragh Coast Guard, and local volunteers, with slurry tanks emptied and drones deployed to cover the expansive farmland, as noted by RTE News.
A Garda spokesperson said, “We’re particularly appealing to anyone with camera footage, including dashcam or CCTV from Thursday 20th March and Friday 21st March in the Kenmare town or Moll’s Gap area, to provide it to the investigation team,” as quoted in an official Garda appeal. Mr Gaine’s sister, Mary O’Connor, made an emotional plea on RTE’s Morning Ireland, stating, “We just want him home, whatever it takes—please keep looking,” reflecting the family’s desperation.
Mr Gaine is described as 5 foot 8 with a medium build, short dark hair, and wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans, may have encountered trouble on the farm he’s worked his entire life, with no activity on his phone or bank cards since his disappearance.
