Gardai have confirmed that a young boy has tragically passed away after encountering trouble while swimming at Lissadell Beach in Co Sligo this afternoon.
The incident occurred as the child was in the water off the popular beach. Emergency services responded promptly, and he was airlifted by Rescue 118 to Sligo University Hospital in critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, the boy was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Gardaí have stated that a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court to examine the circumstances, RTÉ News noted.
