The Liberal has spoken with two members of the force working in the city centre who told us that they’re ready for any trouble tomorrow, should left wing counter protesters decide to try and kick things off.
Gardaà are preparing to ensure a peaceful National Patriot Protest tomorrow at 2pm in the Garden of Remembrance, where attendees will gather to express their views. With the possibility of counter-protesters appearing, authorities are planning a strong presence to keep everything calm and orderly.
With large crowds expected in the city for Pope Francis’s funeral on Saturday, Gardaà are already focused on managing busy events. Tomorrow’s protest adds to the schedule, and they’re ready to support it with a visible policing operation around Parnell Square.
The Garden of Remembrance, a meaningful spot in Irish history, will host the event, which has generated buzz online. Gardaà will draw on past experience, like last year’s anti-immigration march, using officers, vans, and possibly horses to maintain a safe environment.
Learning from previous demonstrations, including a 2023 rally near Leinster House, Gardaà will have barriers and rapid-response teams in place to keep the day running smoothly. They’re also monitoring online activity to stay ahead of any surprises.
By 2pm tomorrow, a solid Garda presence will be visible, ensuring the patriots can gather peacefully while keeping Dublin open for everyone. Authorities are set to make this a calm and successful event for all involved.
