Robert Duvall, the acclaimed Oscar-winning actor renowned for his powerful, nuanced performances over seven decades, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at his home in Middleburg, Virginia. He was 95.

His wife, Luciana Duvall, announced the news the following day, sharing on Facebook: “Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”

Born January 5, 1931, in San Diego, Duvall rose to prominence with memorable roles that showcased his remarkable versatility. He earned widespread recognition as the loyal consigliere Tom Hagen in Francis Ford Coppola’s *The Godfather* (1972) and its sequel, and delivered the iconic line “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” as Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore in *Apocalypse Now* (1979). His portrayal of an alcoholic country singer in *Tender Mercies* (1983) won him the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Duvall received seven Oscar nominations overall, and his work extended to classics like *To Kill a Mockingbird*, *Network*, *The Great Santini*, *Lonesome Dove*, and *The Apostle*, which he also directed. A master of both quiet intensity and commanding presence, he left an indelible mark on American cinema.

In lieu of a formal service, the family encouraged honoring his memory by watching a great film, sharing stories with friends, or enjoying the countryside—reflecting the storyteller’s life he lived. Duvall is survived by his wife and loved ones. His legacy endures through generations of unforgettable characters.
