All of Wales will be closed from midnight tonight and party plans will be cancelled for everyone except for Christmas Day itself
Prime Minister Mark Drakeford made the announcement after urgent talks with ministers about a new strain of coronavirus.
From December 23rd to 28th, the rules had originally been planned to be relaxed so that people could celebrate the holidays with loved ones.
But now it’s limited to Christmas Day only.
Announcing the tough new measures that will affect millions of people, Drakeford said, “While we all want to avoid further disruption to businesses and plans for Christmas, our overriding duty is to protect lives here in Wales.”
He added: “We know that 2021 will be a different and a better year.
“Our economy will recover. Christmas will come again.”
The changes mean a Wales-wide lockdown, which was due to come into effect on December 28th, has been brought forward and will begin at midnight tonight.
Meanwhile London is also seeing a full stay at home message with a 4th tier of restrictions being implemented.
