Patrick Murphy, a 37-yr-old man, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the manslaughter of 20-yr-old Jordan Ronan.
On 26 July 2024, Murphy was convicted of killing Ronan in the early hours of the morning. He admitted to the fatal stabbing but argued that he acted in defence of his property and family.
The incident occurred around 3am when Murphy’s dogs alerted him to someone outside the house. CCTV footage showed Ronan entering and exiting Murphy’s van before getting into his Murphy’s partner’s car.
Murphy ran barefoot from the house carrying a kitchen knife and stabbed Ronan once in the chest. The wound measured 18cm deep and caused cardiac arrest within minutes.
Ronan fled the scene, with Murphy chasing him until Ronan collided with a lamppost and collapsed. Murphy then returned to his home without calling emergency services at any point.
