Minister for Education Norma Foley has said that a large number of schools will remain closed today in counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary and Cork.
All schools in counties Carlow and Kilkenny are closed today, while schools in some other parts are opening later this morning, however that may change as the day goes on.
Schools are going by themselves with the principal and Vice Principal making decisions as to whether to open or not.
It’s understood that some schools that have opened may close early if conditions are deemed too bad to get home in.
This story is developing.
Schools are making a decision on the ground, Ms Foley said, and will notify parents and guardians.
