Two Status Orange wind alerts and several Status Yellow alerts have been issued as Storm Darragh is expected to impact Ireland, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds, reports RTE.

Very intense and gusty northwest winds are anticipated to affect Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal, where a Status Orange wind alert will be in effect from 10pm tomorrow night until 9am Saturday.

Met Éireann indicated that potential effects of the storm may include downed trees, damage to power infrastructure, and challenging travel conditions, reports RTE.

A separate Status Orange wind warning has been issued for Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow from midnight tomorrow until 9am Saturday.

Heavy rains and strong winds are predicted to sweep across the nation starting this afternoon.

Met Éireann meteorologist Brandon Creagh mentioned that the Atlantic coastal regions are expected to experience the most severe effects of Storm Darragh initially, reports RTE.

While speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne, he also noted that western parts of the country would experience significant onshore waves that could lead to coastal flooding.

“As the night progresses and the storm moves across the country, it will shift toward the southeast where they will be most affected from midnight until tomorrow morning,” he stated.

Mr. Creagh indicated that conditions would “settle down” tonight before Storm Darragh arrives tomorrow, with the initial rainfall predicted to begin around 9am, reports RTE.

The first of the alerts will start in Kerry, where a Status Yellow wind warning will be active from midday until 6pm.

Another Status Yellow wind alert will be in place for Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal from 1pm until 9pm.

The forecaster is cautioning about falling branches, localized debris, and difficult travel conditions.

A Status Yellow rain alert has been issued for Clare, Connacht, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath, and Westmeath from 10am tomorrow until 10am Saturday, reports RTE.
