Motorists have been advised to be extremely vigilant overnight and tomorrow morning after Met Eireann issued a status yellow weather warning for ice and snow in a number of counties.
The national forecaster says that the warning applies to Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Louth and Wicklow.
The warning will remain in place until at least 10am on Thursday morning.
Major patches of black ice will be present, predominantly on B roads but on many motorways that may not have been salted.
