BREAKING: Peter Mandelson arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in the UK

Lord Peter Mandelson, the former UK Business Secretary, European Commissioner, and British Ambassador to the United States, was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers at his Camden home in London. The 72-yr-old peer was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office, a serious offence involving the abuse of position by a public official.

The arrest follows a criminal investigation launched earlier this month, triggered by allegations that Mandelson shared sensitive, market-sensitive government information with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as Business Secretary under Gordon Brown around 2009–2010. Recent releases from US Department of Justice documents, including emails, reportedly showed communications between Mandelson and Epstein related to fiscal and economic policy matters.

Police conducted searches at two properties linked to Mandelson—in Camden and Wiltshire—prior to the arrest. He was transported to a London police station for questioning. The case emerges amid broader fallout from Epstein-related revelations, including similar scrutiny of other high-profile figures.

Mandelson has previously denied any criminal wrongdoing, insisting his interactions were not motivated by personal gain. The investigation remains ongoing, with no charges yet filed. This development marks a dramatic turn for the veteran Labour politician, once a key architect of New Labour.
