Things are beginning to look slightly better for Pope Francis this evening. Vatican sources say he’s receiving treatment but that he’s in good spirits, he slept well and the night and morning went well today.
The Vatican has announced the start of night-time prayers for the health of Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square as the 88-year-old pontiff battles a complex lung infection and other complications, reports Breaking News.
The Vatican’s No 2, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, will lead the first prayer on Monday evening.
The announcement immediately brought to mind the night-time candlelit vigils in the piazza that preceded the death of John Paul II in 2005, reports Breaking News.

Francis, who has double pneumonia and the early stages of kidney insufficiency, was awake and in good spirits on Monday. He is not in pain and is not receiving artificial nutrition, the Vatican said.
“The night passed well, the pope slept and is resting,” it said, reports Breaking News.
Bishop Claudio Giulio Dori officiated an emotional Mass in the John Paul chapel at the Gemelli hospital, where Francis has been since February 14 after a case of bronchitis deteriorated.
“We are very sorry. Pope Francis is a good pope, let’s hope that he makes it. Let us hope,” said a choked-up Filomena Ferraro, who was visiting a relative at the hospital on Monday, reports Breaking News.
Physicians stated late on Sunday that although Francis was still in serious condition, he had not had any further respiratory episodes since Saturday. According to blood testing, there was “early, slight kidney insufficiency,” but it was managed.
On Sunday, Francis was attentive, receptive, and present during Mass while on high amounts of supplemental oxygen, reports Breaking News.
Given his advanced age, frailty, and underlying lung illness, doctors have described Francis’ situation as touch-and-go.
They have cautioned that sepsis, a dangerous blood infection that can manifest as severe pneumonia, is Francis’s biggest hazard, reports Breaking News.
