A primary school in County Kildare has informed parents that it will close temporarily due to safety concerns.
In a message sent to parents this afternoon, St Patrick’s National School in Celbridge announced the decision after a series of recent external reviews on fire safety and building compliance.
The Board of Management stated that the closure prioritizes the safety, health, and welfare of pupils and staff.
Independent assessments highlighted several fire safety and building compliance issues needing urgent attention.

Although no specific incident prompted the decision, the Board views it as prudent and responsible to halt use of the building while priority works are carried out to achieve full statutory compliance.
The temporary closure will enable immediate implementation of key fire safety measures and further verification of structural and building compliance issues.
The school serves around 400 students and staff daily. Parents have expressed a mix of shock and relief at the announcement.
Áine Tobin, whose daughter is in first class, noted that while parents are still working out how to manage the disruption, many see it as positive that children will not attend a building with identified safety problems.
In recent weeks, parents had raised growing concerns about the building’s condition after safety audits surfaced.
Children were sent home today with their books and various worksheets.
Parents are expected to home-school their children during the works.
A meeting for parents is scheduled for tomorrow evening.
