BREAKING: Richard Satchwell has been found guilty of murdering his wife at their Cork home in 2017

The jury has found Richard Satchwell guilty of murdering his wife, Tina Satchwell, at their home in Youghal, Co Cork, in 2017.

After a trial lasting just over four weeks at the Central Criminal Court, the jury deliberated for nearly nine and a half hours before convicting Satchwell of murder, reports RTE.

The 58-year-old truck driver reported his wife missing in March 2017, repeatedly lying to gardaí, journalists, family, and friends, claiming he returned home from errands to find Tina had left him, taking €26,000 in savings.

It took over six and a half years for gardaí to discover that Tina had never left their home on Grattan Street, Youghal.

In October 2023, her skeletal remains were found buried under the stairs in the living room during a search of the house, which had previously been searched in June 2017.
Richard Satchwell had pleaded not guilty to murdering Tina in March 2017.

Ms. Satchwell’s body, still wearing a dressing gown and pyjamas with her wallet in the pocket, was wrapped in black plastic and buried face down in a grave dug by Satchwell under the stairs.

Due to the condition of the body, no cause of death could be determined, and the court heard there was no evidence of broken bones.
