A status orange weather warning has been issued for the entire country from Met Eireann, with a status red warning now being issued for counties Galway and Clare.
The warnings remain in place until at least 4pm on Saturday.
The national forecaster has issued a status red weather warning for Galway and Clare as storm Jorge approaches the western seaboard as they predict Storm Jorge will see winds gusting as strong as 145km/h, especially on coastal and high up areas.
Met Eireann now say that localised flooding is likely and possibly electricity blackouts.
People are advised to stay well clear of coastal areas, be very vigilant if out walking or driving on motorways with crosswinds and to not go anywhere near the water.
