The Ukrainian Presidential office has confirmed that Russian troops have seized control of Chernobyl.
In an announcement made in the past few minutes Mykhailo Podolyak said its not possible to say whether the site is safe following the Russian invasion.
The seizure of the plant which was the scene of one of the most devastating nuclear disasters comes after Russian forces had entered the region earlier on Thursday.
