Oleksandr Usyk solidified his status as one of boxing’s all-time greats, defeating Daniel Dubois via fifth-round TKO at Wembley Stadium to reclaim the undisputed heavyweight championship. The Ukrainian star, now 24-0 (15 KOs), unified his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles with Dubois’ IBF belt in a rematch that captivated a crowd of nearly 90,000.
The fight, a highly anticipated clash following their controversial 2023 bout, saw Usyk’s technical brilliance overwhelm Dubois. From the opening bell, Usyk’s jab and footwork kept the 27-year-old Brit at bay. Despite Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) landing a strong right in the third, Usyk’s precision countered effectively, culminating in a devastating right hook in the fifth that floored Dubois. A follow-up left hook ended the night, with referee Luis Pabon stopping the contest as Dubois failed to beat the count.
The victory marks Usyk as a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, a feat only previously achieved by Muhammad Ali. “I love boxing, and I take every opportunity,” Usyk said post-fight, hinting at a potential final bout before retirement. Dubois, gracious in defeat, vowed to return stronger, acknowledging Usyk’s superior skill.
The event, streamed on DAZN PPV, also featured Lawrence Okolie’s unanimous decision win over Kevin Lerena on the undercard. Usyk’s legacy continues to grow, with many now calling him the greatest heavyweight of his era.
