Authorities in the UK have now confirmed that ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were attacked with a nerve agent at, or near a shopping center in Salisbury, UK.
The pair, plus a police officer who arrived at the scene, are in a critical condition in hospital but all three are responding to treatment.
The actual chemical utilized in the attack has not yet been revealed.
The Metropolitan police and other agencies are conducting investigations to try and determine how the attack unfolded.
The incident bears a resemblance to the killing of Alexander Litvinenko in 2006. The former KGB agent, an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin, was assassinated via a cup of tea laced with highly radioactive Polonium.
