British health authorities detect two cases of Lassa Fever in England

British health authorities have detected two cases of Lassa Fever in England.

The disease is transmitted by rat droppings or contaminated bodily fluids, and displays symptoms similar to Ebola.

There have only been 8 confirmed cases of Lassa in the UK since 1980.

It is understood that the latest cases are in the same family, who recently returned from West Africa, where the disease is common.
