The former boyfriend of Stephanie Knox and Buncrana hero Davitt Walsh has said the actions taken by his former girlfriend to sue for damages over the tragic incident is wrong.

Walsh who heroically jumped into the water at Lough Swilly in 2016 and rescued little 4 month old Rioghnach-Ann McGroty, has described Ms Knox’s actions as wrong and he will have no part of it.

Speaking to The Daily Mail newspaper, Mr Walsh who revealed he is still traumatised by the incident, said the current lawsuit filed by Ms Knox had absolutely nothing to do with him and that he absolutely has no interest in money.

Mr Walsh who also told the paper that he still has nightmares over the incident which claimed the lives of 49 year old Sean McGrotty, his sons Mark, 11, and eight-year-old Evan, his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels, 57, and her 14-year-old daughter Jodie-Lee Tracey, back in March 2016.

In an in depth interview with the paper Mr Walsh said that although he believes Stephanie has the right to do what she wanted, he felt her actions were wrong and that the resulting situation is all about money.

The hero told the Daily Mail that he has no interest in money and he is still struggling to move on from the tragedy.

It is believed Mr Walsh spoke to the paper after his former partner who took care of little Rioghnach-Ann as he attempted to rescue the other five family members, filed a lawsuit claiming for a loss earnings following the devastating incident.

Although Ms Knox’s solicitor has issued a statement claiming his client is suing the council, the cardiac physiologist became the subject of media coverage after the McGroty family received a letter regarding her claim for compensation.
