The Tánaiste and Labour Party leader Joan Burton has claimed that she and the government will look at how to further improve child benefits in the next Budget.

Ms Burton made the claims after she was heavily questioned by Fianna Fáil’s Willie O’Dea in the Dail this afternoon regarding the upcoming cuts to the lone-parent payment. It is understood that thousands of single parents will loose their entitlements due to new proposals being introduced by the government on July 1st. The Tanaiste responded to Mr O’Dea’s question by stating that her main focus is to ensure access to employment and training is available for everyone.

Although Ms Burton did say she will carefully examine all the various supports currently available to all families with children including single- parent families in the next budget.
