Buses are acting as ‘corridors of crime’ in Dublin, says Fianna Fáil TD

According to a Fianna Fáil spokesman, public transit lines in Dublin are serving as “corridors of crime,” reports Breaking News.

The statement was made by Cormac Devlin TD as a number of Fianna Fáil parliamentary party members in Dublin unveiled a number of recommendations about anti-social conduct in the city.

It comes after the Fianna Fáil legislators conducted a poll of 1,500 voters, claiming that 90% of participants endorsed the idea of a Dublin criminal District Court operating around-the-clock.

More over 70% of respondents claimed to have seen drug use and dealing in public, even though the survey acknowledged that respondents were self-selecting, reports Breaking News.

The parliamentary party Fianna Fáil responded by passing a motion endorsing a number of measures, such as the deployment of gardaí specifically for public transportation, a “zero tolerance” policy for anti-social conduct in public areas, and a minimum of 60 minutes of foot or pedal patrol by gardaí during each shift.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Mr. Devlin stated that “further improvements” on public transportation were necessary, even if the city’s feeling of safety had improved due to gardaí’s enhanced visibility, reports Breaking News.

“There was a real concern for a lot of people who are using public transport, that there’s an element that sometimes can board, buses, trains, Luases, whatever the case may be, and that can change the whole dynamic of the service. It can cause intimidation, it can cause fear,” reports Breaking News.
