The businessman Richard O’Halloran has finally been reunited with his family after having to spend almost three years away from them.

According to RTE, the Irishman was reunited with his family in the airport when he arrived back in Dublin.  He had become caught up in a dispute between the company he worked for, and the Chinese government.  As a result he was not allowed to leave the country and it has taken almost three years to try and secure his exit.

In a statement, Mr. O’Halloran thanked all those who worked to get him home, including the media, “and most importantly, my own family: Ben, Amber, Isabella, Scarlett and especially my wife Tara.”

He said that his family had been a “beacon of light” and that his wife was a “tower of strength” throughout the ordeal.

It is said that further payments will be made to the Chinese authorities over the next few years as part of the agreement to get Mr. O’Halloran home.
