According to numerous of reports the Cabinet will discuss the issue regarding imprisoning of people for non payment of debt.
It is understood Ministers will discuss the matter later today after recommendations were made in a Law Reform Commission report. It is thought that the LRC have put forward suggestions that attachment orders should be made on a person’s salary or social welfare payments instead of imposing a prison sentence.
The LRC say the new measures would also apply to unpaid water bills.
